A Muslim husband in Uganda sets his wife ablaze for converting to Christianity.

Muslim husband set a woman in eastern Uganda on fire after he discovered her conversion to Christianity.

Reports indicate that her Muslim husband set a woman in eastern Uganda on fire after he discovered her conversion to Christianity.

Hajara Namwase, a 32-year-old mother of three in Budaka town, is still in the hospital after her husband attacked her with gasoline and a match.

Namwase regularly attended a small group fellowship in Budaka with her friend and other Christians after accepting Christ on May 3. She returned home from the cell group meeting on Oct. 17 to find her husband had returned from a trip to South Sudan.

Namwase confided in her friend, whom they didn’t reveal for safety reasons, that she got scared seeing him because she couldn’t hide her gospel tracts and small New Testament Bible.

Upon seeing the Bible and other Christian literature, Kalele became furious, left the room, and returned with a gas container. She said.

“He took some bedsheets, covered them around my body, and then removed me from the house,” Namwase told her friend. “He forced me to lie down. He took the petrol, then poured it on me, and after that, he took a matchbox, lit it, and the fire began burning me up.”

Her daughter alerted neighbors, who rescued and took her to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital. Namwase’s sister later arrived to help her get admitted to the hospital, and on Oct. 24, they transferred her to a hospital in Kampala for more specialized treatment.

Her husband has fled to South Sudan, a relative of Namwase told the Morning Star News.

Namwase bitterly complained about her post-release accommodation and the well-being of her children, who are presently being taken care of by their paternal grandmother.

Christian sources report that Namwase is hospitalized in Kampala with third-degree burns, nerve damage, and red spots on her skin.

The attack was the latest of many instances of persecution of Christians in Uganda that Morning Star News has documented.

Uganda’s constitution and laws allow religious freedom, including the right to share and change one’s faith. Muslims make up only 12 percent of Uganda’s population, with high concentrations in eastern areas of the country.
