Christmas is celebrated with enthusiasm and joy worldwide. It’s a time when people adorn their surroundings with festive decorations, exchange gifts, and gather with family. Despite its strong association with Christian traditions, the history of Christmas is a blend of various cultural influences that go beyond nativity scenes and carols. In this radio broadcast, we shall embark on a journey through time, exploring the roots of Christmas and debunking the common misconception that Jesus was born on December 25th.
The Pagan Roots:

While the Bible details the circumstances surrounding Jesus’ birth, it does not specify the date. The Misconception of December 25th:
Contrary to what many people believe, there is no historical evidence backing the claim that Jesus was born on December 25th. The Gospel accounts provide clues that challenge this assumption. For instance, shepherds regularly tending their flocks suggests a season other than winter, as shepherds would typically bring their flocks indoors during the colder months.
Historical records indicate early Christians did not universally celebrate the birth of Jesus until several centuries after his death. The fixation on December 25th gained prominence during the Middle Ages, perpetuated by the influence of the Roman Catholic Church.

Christ, Born of Mary
Matthew, Chapter 1, verses 18 to 25, reads: The birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph before they came together, she was found with a child of the Holy Spirit. Then Joseph, her husband, who was a just man and did not want to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, Son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”
So all this was done that it might be fulfilled, which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, “Behold, the virgin shall be with child and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”
Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, and he did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name Jesus.
Although the Bible is silent regarding the precise date of the Messiah’s birth, this does not mean that God will punish well-meaning Christians for celebrating the Messiah’s birthday on December 25, when the rest of the world does. It’s crucial to remember that December 25 was originally a pagan holiday that non-Christians converted into the birthdate of Christ.

Christmas, with its roots in ancient pagan celebrations and its evolution within the Christian tradition, has become a global phenomenon that transcends religious boundaries.
